About Ekoankar Foundation
Ekoankar
Foundation is a nonprofit humanitarian organization committed to
fighting poverty and preserving human rights by providing a primary
education for poor children in India. Ekoankar was founded by Mr.
Tejvinder (Tej) Monga in 2007. Tej is an entrepreneur and a yoga
teacher who conducts yoga teacher training in the USA and Mexico. He
also travels internationally conducting meditation workshops and
initiations. Tej was born and raised in India and now makes his home
near Dallas, Texas.
During one of his trips to India, Tej met with Mr. Rajesh Srivastava, the principal of a small school in Sarnath, India. Mr. Srivastava's school has about 140 students and supports underprivileged and impoverished children in the community who may not attend school without his help. Having been born in India, Tej has experienced firsthand the inhuman living conditions of the poverty stricken population there. He joined hands with Rajesh Srivastava to continue the mission of helping these needy children.
Ekoankar Foundation's mission is to defend and uplift innocent children who could be forced into child labor or abused and sexual exploited by establishing one-on-one sponsorships for individual children. The foundation has a team of dedicated professionals inspired by the same vision of giving poor children the opportunities an education can provide. Simply put, help from sponsors can save these children and improve their lives.
India
has a population of over a billion people of which an estimated 128
million are children between the ages of two and six. Most of these
children will never have the opportunity for a primary education for
a number of reasons:
Their parents often never attended school so they do not recognize the value or even the possibility of their child doing anything besides working to help support the family.
The government does not have the infrastructure to secure an education for children from impoverished families and simply cannot or will not uphold a law forcing parents to send all children to school.
Aid from nonprofit charity organizations working at the grass roots level is insufficient.
The
children of Ekoankar live in slums with no safe drinking water, no
plumbing, and conditions that make them susceptible to disease.
Children and their parents do not receive routine health care or
immunizations exposing them to serious illnesses such as
tuberculosis, malaria, dysentery, malnutrition, smallpox, and
leprosy.
Ekoankar
is also raising funds to build a new school for needy children that
will not only provide primary education, but employ underprivileged
and mentally challenged people. Our vision and goals can be achieved
only with the help of our volunteers. Our office volunteers help us
with mailings, fund raising, and administrative duties. If you would
